"The Trial of the Catonsville Nine"

I recently participated in a staged reading of "The Trial of the Catonsville Nine" with the rest of my "Young and the Restless" castmates. We performed in Palm Springs at the Palm Canyon Theater under the direction of Judith Chapman (who plays Gloria Fisher Abbott).

The play takes place in the 1970s, and is the true story of nine Catholics - nuns, nurses, priests and others - who burned draft files and went to prison as a result. It was extremely inspiring to read and collaborate on this project, because some of these people are still alive, including Marjorie Melville, who I had been asked to portray. Judith arranged for me to read interviews, and I watched a documentary of the events as they really happened.

It was just wonderful to be on stage again, especially since the play is so topical in that it is about how people respond to war. I learned a lot from that project and also had the honor of meeting Marjorie Melville's daughter, which made it so much more real for all of us.
